Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2019 The Unofficial Guides Bob Sehlinger Len Testa 9781628090819 Books Reviews

  • I bought the 2019 version.

If you are looking for expert recommendations in a concise and meaningful reference guide, do not buy this book.

I’m a busy dad trying to get the most out of my Disney trip. This book is completely inaccessible as a reference guide. It’s nearly worthless.

It’s a 800+ page tome that might have good recommendations buried in it somewhere between the pages and pages of unnecessary extrapolation, worthless quotes from other readers, and puffery about how Disney is ripping me off.

    This book stinks.
  • I like that this book is impartial. The authors don't try to sell you on WDW, but tell you both side of the stories. After reading the introductory chapters, and reflecting on the needs of our family... we actually decided to cancel our reservation. Between the added parking fees, and the constant increase of prices, and the constant wait for everything... we decided the money would be better spent making multiple vacations exceptional instead of one exceptional week at Disney. If you want an impartial book that tells both sides of the story, I highly recommend this book. Added note we have been to Disney before on our honeymoon... a lot has changed since then...
  • Every time we decide to go to Disney, the first thing I do is obtain the newest version of the Unofficial Guide. The first few trips it was crucial. If you don't have a battle plan (a more fitting name for the Touring Plans), you'll never survive Magic Kingdon. Seriously, the book tells you everything you need to know about the rides, the food, the transportation system, and many other vital areas. Most importantly, the book will SAVE YOU MONEY! It discusses and rates the resort hotels and the dining establishments for value. It explains the various tickets packages and the dining plans helping you to choose wisely whether a package deal is a good fit for your needs. Finally, if you've been multiple times in recent years and think you've got it down, Disney changes things. Fast Passes work differently. The dining plans have been tailored to fit more families' needs. You get the drill. I've been 33 times and I always learn something new that saves me money or time or stress.
  • Our first trip to Disney was in the late 80s and the Unofficial Guide was my best friend. It gave me the information that made our trip a success. Of course, it was about 300 pages then. Now it’s over 800 and we have the internet.

The guide, however, is the most comprehensive source for Disney World and it includes some good information on Universal Studios and Sea World. In addition to the astounding amount of detail, it offers advice from seasoned travelers to Disney World.

It goes right down to the color of the carpet and drapes and when they installed.

Even if you don’t need that level of detail, you ought to find adequate information to help in planning your trip. If not - the guide also gives you information on the highest rated travel agents that specialize in Disney World.
  • Much of the ranking for rides/attractions is way off. For example Star Tours ride gave some of the warnings but did not mention the sudden jerking of the ride. Listed seniors as over 4 stars and I hated it! I had to hold my neck and brace myself the whole ride. They gave the Pixar 3D at Epcot as NO STARS. My husband, myself & grandchildren all loved it! Pixar and Soaring are our favorites at Epcot. They showed no positive reviews for Hall of Presidents; just "nice place to nap" or "breastfeed"...so offensive!
  • Very detailed information about the parks and how to manage your time while there. I am glad I read this book, as I had no idea that you really need to make fast pass and restaurant reservations in advance. I appreciate that everything is explained so thoroughly.
  • I love to do a ton of research before a trip, not just Disney. So.... When going to Disney World, I can get overloaded with info. This book has SO much information. Not only does it have great tips from the writers, it has wonderful quotes from everyday people. Such great information on touring plans, fast pass, restaurant reviews, etc. This goes along well with the touring plans website. If you love to research, you will love this book. If you are more spontaneous, this book will probably be overkill. Great companion book!
  • I took time to read this book and I enjoyed this book. I learned several important facts and wrote down my own cheat sheet to use when I am at DW. This book has several good tips for the grand kids too. My wife has begun the recommended pre vacation walking routine in this book.
